Your surviving spouse's death benefit:
- Your surviving spouse will receive 100% of your earned monthly pension (adjusted for the bridge benefit, if applicable) minus your eligible child’s death benefit as described below, for a 5-year guarantee period.
- When the 5-year guarantee period ends, your surviving spouse will receive 66 2/3% of your earned monthly pension (adjusted for the bridge benefit, if applicable) for their lifetime.
Your eligible child's death benefit:
- Each eligible child will receive 10% of your earned monthly pension (adjusted for the bridge benefit, if applicable) to a maximum total of 33.33%, divided equally if there are more than 3 eligible children.
- The death benefit is payable until they are no longer considered eligible.
Notes:
If your surviving spouse passes away within the 5-year guarantee period and there is still an eligible child in pay:
- The monthly pension payment that would have been paid to your surviving spouse within the 5-year guarantee period will be paid to the eligible child, divided equally if there is more than one eligible child.
- If, after the end of the 5-year guarantee period, a child is considered eligible, they will receive 66 2/3% of your earned monthly pension (adjusted for the bridge benefit, if applicable) until they are no longer considered eligible. The death benefit will be divided equally if there is more than one eligible child.
If your surviving spouse passes away within the 5-year guarantee period and there is no eligible child in pay:
- Your surviving spouse's designated beneficiary or estate will receive a lump sum payment equal to the present value of the remaining pension payments, calculated at the time of their death.
Your surviving spouse's death benefit:
- Your surviving spouse will receive 100% of your earned monthly pension (adjusted for the bridge benefit, if applicable) minus your eligible child’s death benefit as described below, for a 5-year guarantee period.
- When the 5-year guarantee period ends, your surviving spouse will receive 60% of your earned monthly pension (adjusted for the bridge benefit, if applicable) for their lifetime.
Your eligible child's death benefit:
- Each eligible child will receive 10% of your earned monthly pension (adjusted for the bridge benefit, if applicable) to a maximum total of 40%, divided equally if there are more than 4 eligible children.
- The death benefit is payable until they are no longer considered eligible.
